Who is adopting social media?

Filed under: facebook, social media — Tags: , — webcubic @ 10:19 pm

One of the factors that fueled the growth of Facebook, especially in contrast with MySpace, is the adoption of the application by an older audience.

Surveys indicate that these older ones have more frequent contact with people, not just family or neighbors, but issue-oriented groups and co-workers as well.

  • They communicate regularly.
  • They have more face-to-face contact and use smart phones (78% responded ‘new technology plays an important role in my life’)
  • They are equally likely to be male as female
  • The majority are still working, more likely to operate their own business, most likely to engage in volunteer activity and to have the highest household income
  • They are more likely to try new products, technologies and new experiences. They are recommenders who embrace the role of technology in their connected lives

These older people are a good audience for promotion activities.  They’re on Facebook which makes Facebook an optimal tool for promoting your business.
